This opportunity has come from my win on the Aussie Tour in Wollongong last year. I didn't know it at the time but I received a letter front the USGA telling me I was through to final qualifying. Very excited I set about doing some research so that I would have some clue to the process. After doing a bit of digging and getting some help from a mate who has also reached this final stage we determined that there will be about 8-9 different venues to go to for the qualifying.
There was two schools of thought in regards to deciding where to go. The first way to go to a venue on the West coast making the travel easier and also because there are less guys at the venue you may not have as many good players there. Roughly from our research it looks like maybe around 40-50 players for 5-6 spots. The second school of thought was to go to the PGA Tour site, now this brings obvious quality to the field, and size with the field size being around 130, but that also means that there will be more spots!! Tough decision@
So I chose the PGA Tour site, and low and behold they pair me up for the 36 holes with Davis Love III and Ben Curtis who won the British Open in 2003. So either way I am going to gain some awesome experience from this trip but hopefully a spot in the US Open at the Olympic Club!! I hop e to see you there!!!
