This wasn't the week I wanted to start my year on course up here in Japan. Missing the cut is never fun but the reality is that it happens to a lot of guys every week. I really don't enjoy it as I'm sure bobody does.
My second round started badly for me as I hit poor approach shots into the first two holes and made was three over through two holes. I was gutted given I needed under par for sure to make the cut. My patience this week was a highlight for me and that patience was rewarded over the next 8 holes hitting every green in reg and making 5 pars and 3 birdies. It showed me how I need to play all year and that I have certainly the ability to make a score. Unfortunately I lost my way again after that and the damage was done.
My short game this week was terrible, not sure why, whether it was the really wet conditions...I'm not sure, all I know is that for the greens I missed I had an incredible amount over par.....just not good enough at this level.
The good news is that I made enough birdies to compete and that I also have a few weeks to head home and work my tail off to try and improve! My long game structure will also get a little adjusting and my new found ability to turn the ball right to left will have a serious amount of work done on it to make it even more automatic. I am so excited to get home and work on all of it and return to Japan in May ready to be better. Week one done, many more to come. Thanks for the support everyone and I look forward to more of it as the year progresses. Thanks also to anyone who helped out Rach and the kids whilst I was away, truly appreciated!!
