I shot 3 over on day one and 1 over on Friday to miss the cut. As I was walking down the 18th on the Friday I was wondering how this had happened. I truly believe I am a better golfer now than I have ever been before from a ball striking and shot making perspective. I have the ability to hit every shot in the game and feel comfortable shaping the ball well in any situation. So why??
Well the answer is simple, I am human and will miss shots. On Friday I missed 2 tee shots out of 18 and got the full penalty of a bogey and a double bogey. Some weeks you miss a tee shot and make pars or even birdies!! Adding to that my putting this week let me down big time. The longest putt I made was from 8 foot, not really good enough. As good as I was hitting it I need to make some more putts. The frustrating thing this week was that I was hitting my putts on my target lines 90% of the time. I think the problem I had was that the greens were really slow and I simply didn't adapt.
Moving forwards I plan to devote more time to the putting greens and have invested in a device to help me map the tournament greens more easily so that I can hopefully have more confidence in the greens each week.
Having the week off in Queenstown wasn't all bad though. Yesterday I hired a mountain bike and spent 3 and a half hrs taking the cable car up the mountain right in the heart of Queenstown and then riding the trails back down. It was awesome and I came out of it without any spills and also a rekindled love of mountain biking!! Great fun!!
So home I go after mixed success this trip but renewed passion for the game and am looking forward to the year ahead. Next up, well not sure actually as I wait to see if I am going to get into a few tournaments on the One Asia Tour and Japanese Challenge tour. Let the practice time begin!! If only the Qld weather could improve!!
