Round one this morning for me started at 7:20 and it was actually quite a chilly morning! I started on the 10th tee today which is a short par 4.
Sometimes I like hitting an iron down the first but on a cold morning I think I prefer a driver, just a little easier I reckon. Today I didn't have that choice as the 10th has water up the right side and driver just isn't an option.
I hit a nice 3 iron up the left side but when I arrived at my ball I had found a divot in the fairway!! Not what you need when you have a second shot across water to the green. Fortunately I hit a great shot and found the green out of the divot and my day was away. Two putts for par for a solid start.
My day from there was very up and down, I made bogey on the long tough 11th then really just hung on over the next 3 holes making some clutch par putts, something that had been sorely missed last week. After a quality couple of holes without birdies I played two great shots into 18 and finally, finally made a putt for birdie!! It wasn't even long, maybe 10feet but that was a very welcome sight seeing the ball finally go into a hole this trip!!
After turning even par I managed two more quality holes and made the putts to seal a couple more birdies. I had some momentum but unfortunately my driver wasn't playing the game today. With the 4-6 inch long rough it's not the course to have an off day with the driver, even if you are only just missing the fairways. That was the story over the closing holes and due to missing too many fairways I bogied the 4th and 9th holes.
It was a disappointing end to the day but even par was still a solid day. I have improved by three shots each round up here on this trip so hopefully that trend continues tomorrow for a 3 under par round. I feel like a really good round is close so here's hoping tomorrow is the day.
