Bali was in the news this week with a few of the local terrorists being killed causing the Australian Government to issue a no go travel alert to Indonesia. I was already in Jakarta and fortunately things are looking alright although I am a little uneasy everyday here. It is the first country I have been to where I actually feel unsafe and am not even game to step foot outside the compound out hotel is in. To put it into perspective, our hotel has security guards with scanners checking everybody going into the hotel!! Slightly comforting, slightly stressing!! Adding to that we have been having a police escort to the course everyday too....slightly comforting, slightly stressing!!
The course this week is tough, the rough is extreme, the greens are extreme and the course is long. It has been windy and about 32-33 degrees with about 90% humidity. There is no doubt you will have to play exceptional golf this week to feature come Sunday, and controlling the ball both off the tee and hitting to certain parts of the green will be absolutely critical. Putting on these greens will also be very difficult, but if you are in the right parts of the greens it should be ok. I am playing nicely so have every reason to feel good about the week. I am playing late tomorrow so won't get to blog until very late, so maybe check out the results early Friday morning. You can also follow online on www.oneasia.asia
Jakarta is an interesting place. There are signs around everywhere with the tourism slogan on them saying "Enjoy Jakarta!" I am not sure how you can do that when you feel so unsafe leaving the compound of the Hotel. Maybe I am just being a little over the top, but hey I really value my life and safety. I must say that I am looking forward to being on that Qantas plane on Sunday night. Take care and play well!!!
