Hi all, I hope you are all well and enjoying the life you have in front of you. If not, think about changing something!!
I am writing to you from Perth as my year of travel and play is continuing. I am playing the WA PGA Championships at The Vines Golf Club....www.vines.com.au/ The course is in pretty good shape and it is good to be back on good fast greens again. It is an interesting layout and requires some real quality golf and great thinking around the course. The wind also is a challenge as it tends to blow from one direction in the morning and then changes around 2pm almost on que...the "Fremantle Doctor". You would have to see it to believe it but how true it is!! I played the first round today and shot a somewhat disappointing 3 over. The disappointing part of it was that for 17 holes I actually did a pretty good job out there in windy conditions. I controlled the ball pretty well for most of the day but unfortunately had a triple on 15. I was in a fairway bunker with not much of a shot due to the lip. The only shot I had was to hit a draw around the lip and then look to pitch and putt for the par. Unfortunately I didn't get the draw and subsequently hit my shot right of the green into the trees. 5 minutes of searching came up with nothing so that meant back to the bunker and drop the ball.....dropping a ball in sand is never a good thing. I hacked it out, pitched it on and 2 putted, easy 7!! So disappointing to have a triple so late in the day, no time to get it back. Importantly I have 18 holes tomorrow to get it back and I am doing enough things right to believe that is achievable. To give you a little insight into Tour Life, I am staying with four other guys this week in a house in Perth. We are in a five bedroom place which I would love as my house!! Spacious and a great outdoor area with a pool, pool table, table tennis table and dart board. Being keen sportsman the table tennis table is getting quite the workout!! I am a part of Bob Sugars Tours this week, not sure how that nickname came about for Adam Crawford but it has. He does the booking and pays bills etc, he's the boss of the house. We also have David Bransdon, Steve Jones and Matt Ballard. The positive for the week is that at least I am on top of the boys for table tennis...just need to transfer that form to the course!! Also for those that want to follow along with life and some banter from the tour, I am now on Twitter as Gbangers, Matthew Guyatt.. Ok will be back tomorrow with good news from my round, keep practicing and working at your game and remember that every day is an opportunity for you to invest into your
