Thought I would just give a little update on how my tournament is going. Not sure that I have any great pearls of wisdom this time around though.
After a solid first day I felt a little off my game in the second round. I missed 5 greens for the day and made 5 bogies on those holes. Then on the other holes I played some exceptional golf in the afternoon wind only to miss a host of opportunities and only make 3 birdies. So 2 over it was and a slide down the slippery slope that is a leaderboard when you shoot over par. I didn't feel I played a whole lot different than the first day to be honest so it was a little strange to sign for 7 shots worse.
Day three saw the winds arrive with force!! It was really blowing by the time I stood on the tee at 10 past 10. A shortish par four of around 285m with 21m downhill where I have been hitting driver all week. Today with the wind behind off the left I took a 3 wood but it landed next to the flag and bounded over the back. As was the case yesterday, I missed a good opportunity for birdie and also the opportunity to start the day positively. I played the next two holes well but didn't manage to make the putts so when I hit the par 5 4th in two I thought a birdie might finally arrive. Wrong, as I was left with a very difficult putt up and over and down the severe slope with little chance of stopping the ball close. A three putt didn't really settle me on the greens at all. The funny part is that on the next green where I had 30ft for birdie I simply walked up and hit it without even cleaning the ball and watched as it rolled right in the middle!! What a crazy game this is!!! Try a little less and boom.
My day kind of flowed along in a similar vain with good golf without the rewards and any poor shots I generally payed the price, so when I stood on the last hole I was 1 over in very trying conditions I might add, and feeling like I had been put through the ringer! To give you an idea of the wind on the 12th hole I hit a 7iron from 121m, normally a wedge or soft 9 iron for me and then on the 18th I drove the green at 345m!! Crazy wind and a tough afternoon. A closing two putt birdie saw me post an even par round, good enough to be tied 10th going into the final day. Too far back for victory I'd say but hopefully some putts role in tomorrow and a top ten result would be great.
