Today I was reminded about just how tough my chosen sport can be sometimes.
The venue is Brookwater Golf Club set in the trees in Ipswich. It's a tough layout with no let up at all. Everything in the lead up pointed towards a great week, practice went well and I was feeling good.
I warmed up well and was hitting the ball great on the range. Off to the tee I went. I played the first 5 holes well, lipping out twice for birdie to be even through five holes. Then inexplicably I made a double bogey followed by a bogey thanks to a three putt. I birdied the 8th and made bogey up the 9th to turn 3 over, not great but not the end of the world.
I started with a birdie on 10 and made pars at my 11th and 12th to be two over with 6 to play. This is where I need a time machine to go back in time and have the next 4 holes over, where I dropped 5 shots. I just kept hitting it in bad spots and not being able to save my par.
Brookwater taught me a lesson in golf today, hopefully one I learnt and will apply tomorrow. Most of the boys found it tough going with the cut line being 3 over nearly 4 at the moment. It will require a great day tomorrow but I will rest up and attack it with all I have tomorrow.
