This weeks NZ PGA champs is underway. The morning players are on the course in round one and play has begun at Remuera Golf Club in Auckland.
It is a shortish course that is fitted into the space they had when building the course. Subsequently there are a lot of dogleg holes and some of them are quite severe. It requires patience when you think you should be able to manhandle the short layout as what it lacks in length it picks up in tightness with trees waiting to welcome any offline tee shots. The greens are massive and are really a tail of two nines with the front nine having some redevelopment done. Those greens have some serious slope and shape to them where the back nine greens are just massive flat greens.
There are some really testing holes this week which may make or break your chances here. Should you play those holes well you will be in a great position to attack the shortish par fives and short par fours. The par threes are testing too and will require precision iron play.
Looking forward to the week and as usual the biggest challenge for me at the moment is this foot of mine and actually making it around 4 days. Here's hoping it does.....
