I am in the UK for at least 3 week but really hoping for 4. I play two events on the Europro Tour as well as the British Open final qualifying and then hopefully the British Open.
This week sees me in Oxford playing in the first of the Europro events, The Buildbase Open at Frilford Heath golf club. The course is a solid lay out and most importantly in my practice round today I was working on how to get the ball to stop on the greens. The course is very firm despite being in quite lush condition.
It is very much a position style golf course, where both position off the tee and also position on the greens is paramount. It will be a case of playing away from the pins on many occasions and hopefully making the odd putt. The format of these events is that they are 3 day events with a 2 round cut. They are big fields so that makes for very solid golf over the first two days.
My practice round today was very solid, getting rid of a bit of rust from the trip over and also learning the course. I played nicely and the highlight of the day was the 17th hole which is a 600yd par five. I hit 3 wood then 3 wood onto the fringe of the green, this new 3 wood I have is insanely good, great work Callaway!!!
Tomorrow is the pro am and subsequently I am unable to play on the course at all so it will just be a short game and practice time on the range. Tomorrow also brings about an opportunity to tick off something from my bucket list.....a trip to Wimbledon!! Fortunately I was offered a couple of tickets today so am off to the tennis tomorrow, can't wait!!!
