I went out to the course today and hit some balls and also played the front nine. It was perfect as there was nobody out on the course so it meant plenty of time chipping and putting and playing bunker shots around all the greens. It is a totally different course to last week, with last weeks being a links style and this course carved out of big pine trees. It is lush green and the rough is 5-6 inches high in places which will be a real challenge if you hit it in there. I dropped a ball into the rough just off the fairway on one of the par fives and was only just able to hit a 7 iron out. It is thick stuff and heavy too. Member outcry for sure if the rough was that thick normally. Check the photo here to see the ball in the rough looking towards the green.
I had a great practice day on Saturday and am feeling great about my game still. In looking at my game up here so far, I haven't had a good start in any round so that is the focus this week. We are (my caddy Brett and I) working really hard at my game and spending a lot of time on the greens continuing to learn the speed and break of the greens up here. I like the look of the course this week and I am heading into the week with a positive feeling and hope my best performance is about to happen. I will give another update tomorrow night after the practice round.
Most importantly this week though........GO THE MAROONS!!!
